When Sawyer Fredericks appeared on The Voice, I recognized a winner. He took us back to a simpler kind of music with a clear message. One night he did one of Lynyrd Skynrd’s classics, A Simple Kind of Man. Take a look at some of the lyrics:

Mama told me when I was young, come sit beside me, my only son, And listen closely to what I say, and if you do this it will help you some sunny day.

Take your time, don’t live too fast, troubles will come and they will pass, Go find a woman and you’ll find love, and don’t forget son, there is Someone up above.

And be a simple kind of man…

Compare this to the scripture in Micah 6:8, “He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

Simplicity.

What do you want for your children? Your grandchildren? What advice would you give them today? More lessons, more activities? A schedule that puts them on the fast track to success?

Or would you consider simplifying your child’s world. Slowing down, buying and consuming less, offering fewer choices and less “information.” Could you reduce the stress levels in your family by choosing “simple?”

If you did maybe there would be more time to consider, create and play in an unstructured way. More time to relax, communicate… just be?

Just a thought.
